12/15 GOP debate

Tonight's debate will focus primarily on national security. Choose one candidate's plan to address this issue and reflect.  THEN, respond to another post, voicing your opinion about what your classmate wrote.

  1. Ted Cruz wants to keep all refugees coming from ISIS dominated countries from entering the United States for three years. I think that by creating this fear of muslims, he's only letting ISIS wins. ISIS wants Americans to fear people who come from predominantly muslim countries, and people like Cruz (and of course Trump) easily give them what they want.

  2. Rubio said the only way to defeat ISIS is to have ground troops but not U.S troops. He wants the Arab nations to commit ground forces against ISIS, however he doesn't have a clear plan on how he is going to make this happen. I think that if he really wants ground troops he might as well , bring U.S troops because I doubt another nations troops are going to send out their people.

  3. Ben Carson

Asked if he would be able to kill innocent people given his religious beliefs, he responded yes. It's anticipated that in a time of war innocent people are potentially going to lose their life in the process. He also supports boots on the ground

  5. I think it's interesting that Carly mentioned soundbites and media attention because that's what we're learning about now

  6. Wow I actually agree with Trump, (I know shocker) when he was talking about we need to use our best and brightest to find and stop ISIS through the Internet. Not that bad of an idea...

    1. I feel contradicted to what he says. Although I understand what he is saying, Trump can't completely control the whole media outlet especially the internet where a lot of information is passed around. It would be hard to keep it under control he would have to come up with a system that could take a while.

    2. I agree with Bianca, I think Trump's idea to stop ISIS through the internet is not the smartest; it's not impossible, but it is also not easy. There's an abundance of social media sites and personals that I imagine that it would be difficult to pin point who is ISIS. We also have to take into consideration the American people. I don't think that the people would agree with government increasing the monitoring of their social media accounts, even though they already do to an extent.

  8. I feel as if the whole debate was a repetition of what the candidates have answered before. Most of the time the candidates were going around the questions instead of directly answering or restating their stand on their ideas.

    1. I agree, the moderator kept asking them again for their answer.

  9. Many of the candidates of yesterday's GOP debate proposed military actions to fight ISIS, instead of being diplomatic about the issue. I don't think that bombing Syria and resorting to war is the right way to go, to stop ISIS. I think that by bombing Syria the U.S. would just be killing many innocent people and empowering ISIS, a group that doesn't care for any human life. ISIS wants America to fight back and we will not give into them. Also, similar to what Zaire mentioned in class, we cannot say that we're going to bomb a group for killing innocent people and not provide safety for the innocent people running from death in Syria.

  10. I disagree at the last debates the candidates did not speak a lot about foreign policy. I think its interesting to see how the state in which the country is in determines what they choose to focus on. I also think that instead of bashing the democrats approach to foreign policy, talk about your own. Fiorina spent a lot of time talking about the lack in hillary and obama's approach but failed to speak must about her's.
