Live blog! Agree or disagree with two ideas / comments made by the candidates that resonate most with you. Also, please don't forget to respond to someone else's comment.
A comment that just resonated with me was when Ted Cruz said that instead of answering questions that the media focuses on like "who is more wise then handsome", they should be answering questions that really matter and are current issues in the country. He mentioned the bias of the media towards conservatives which cause such ridiculous questions
This resonated with me too because we should be focused on policy and current issues and there is some truth to the media being bias towards conservatives.
Didn't find the Bolsheviks to Bolsheviks comparison to the democratic debate so relevant. The delegates keep bringing up the democratic debate , Hillary Clinton in particular , to rush off the actual questions being asked.
His thoughts on that resonated with me because he admitted something that politicians try to cover up. He wants to actually tell the truth which is something a politician doesn't even have in their vocabulary it seems.
"If someone has 7 rooms in their house does the government have the right to say "you don't need 7 rooms,we will take 1" ". Very much agreed. In order to improve the economy , we cannot depend on those who have worked their way to the top or disarrange the accommodations of those who need the help.
I kind of disagree with you. I think that if we tax the wealthy we can get out of a lot of problems such as debt and provide free college for peopl who can't afford it. I understand your idea about working your way to the top, but taxing the wealth won't do anything to them, yea they may lose a few thousand dollars but they will still be apart of that 1%. Also most of them don't pay taxes they find away around it.
I a hundred percent agree with you, Salimatou. As Ms. Brooks mentioned in class today, if we increase taxes on the wealthy we can provide students with free tuition to community colleges. In that way, more people have access to higher education so they can also work their way towards success. Losing a couple hundred dollars won't make a huge impact on the wealthy's economic status. You would think that those who worked their way up from very little would also want to help others reach the same success.
Ben Carson's view on homosexuality and being a homophobe was upsetting. How are you saying that you're for everyone being able to get what they want but your views contradict it. You believe in marriage being between a man and a woman but you're for everyone getting fair treatment? Okay.
I never understood Republicans issue with Obama care until tonight. I think republicans are against the whole obama care because they think government is too big, interferes to much and is in the way of individual prosperity. Christy also said that insted of investing in health care we need to invest in the medicine and vaccination to prevent these disease, not only is this a simple tactict to reduce healthcare but its unnecessary because the lack in medicine is not a issue in economics but a lack in actual scientific findings that dont correlate with money.
I agree with what you said in the first few sentences. Obama care has always been brought up by the candidates and is always looked down upon; only because the republicans find it wrong that the government is too involved in individual prosperity. I believe that the government it involved to an extent because frankly they have to so that they can maintain order.
I think that this debate was not that interesting. I feel that the candidates and the moderators were just arguing, the questions weren't that focused on what can be done to improve America but instead on who said she said.
I agreed with Huckabee's statement on promising senior citizens their medicare because citizens will have something to fall back on especially when they won't be working. Yes people pay taxes and I believe people know they are used for many many things so providing for themselves should be a promise.
I agree with the increase on taxes to the wealthy 1% because it wouldn't really impact them to the extreme. On the other hand similarly to what Salimatou said there are wealthy people who don't pay taxes at all and it's unfair lower even middle class people pay taxes when they barely reach an average salary. Similarly to what Naydeline said one would think that being wealthy and wanting to help the economy would go together but unfortunately it isn't that way.
